Queen Anne’s Lace: innocent looking invader
Who doesn’t love a plant with a story? It is said that Queen Anne’s lace sprang up along the road wherever Queen Anne went tatting her lace. But pretty as it is, Queen Anne’s lace (Daucus carota) is considered a noxious weed in most states and creates plenty of problems—especially in prairie restoration—by taking over native plant habitat. The good news is, if you cut the flowers before they set seeds you can have a lovely bouquet and help control its spread. Read Queen Anne’s Lace’s rap sheet on the USDA official weed list. and get out there and cut some bouquets!
